Leaving Spark Membership: how to export your members and switch in a week
What you can export from Spark Membership, what to save before you cancel, and how to import your members into BlackBeltCRM yourself, free, with an undo.
Switching software is mostly a data question. The classes, the belts and the billing can all be set up in an afternoon; what takes the time is getting your families out of one system and into the next without losing anyone. This is the order we would do it in if we were leaving Spark Membership today.
1. Export before you cancel
Spark’s help center says that after canceling you “will typically retain access until the end of your current billing cycle” (source). We could not find a published timeline for getting data out after that, so treat cancellation as the deadline and export first.
2. What you can get out
Spark does not publish its own export guide that we could find. A switching guide published by another vendor, Gymdesk’s Spark export instructions, describes:
- Members: Members, All Members, Export as CSV, a spreadsheet with member details.
- Memberships and products: no export option.
- Attendance and financial transactions: available as reports.
So plan on your member list coming out as a spreadsheet, and on writing down your membership plans and prices by hand. Save the attendance and financial reports you can open, too: they are your history, and you will want them for your records even if no system imports them.
One more thing to ask Spark about in writing: stored cards and bank accounts. Spark requires US and Canadian businesses to process through its in-house merchant service (source), and we could not find a published answer on whether stored payment details can be transferred out. Ask before you cancel, so you know whether families will need to re-enter a card.
3. Check the file before you commit
Before you talk to anyone, run your export through our free file check. It runs in your browser, reads your real file, and tells you what would come across and what would not. It reads the file; it does not import it.
4. Import it yourself, with an undo
Inside the free trial you import your members yourself with our free import tool. You match each status in your file to Active, Suspended or Inactive, see every family and member it will create and your new monthly rate, then import. If something looks wrong, undo it before you start working with the people it brought in. If you would rather we did the import for you, we can, for a fee.
5. Set up the rest in a week
With the members in, the rest is setup you would do anyway: your programs and ranks (start from the standard ladder, white belt to 10th-degree black belt, and rename anything), your membership plans and prices, and autopay. Run one program alongside Spark for a week if you like, then move the rest.
What you gain, and what you give up
Fair is fair. Spark is strong at winning new students: automated lead campaigns, the Ignite website and content add-on, and a white-label app. If those are what you rely on most, weigh them honestly.
What you gain with us is the other half: at-risk warnings while there is still time to call, retention and churn as a rate, billing in your business’s own name on a merchant account held in your name, and a published price ladder that starts at $49 a month. The row-by-row view is on our comparison page, the price detail on pricing, and the one-to-one version at Spark Membership alternative.
Spark Membership details are quoted from sparkmembership.com and help.sparkmembership.com on October 24, 2026. The export steps come from a guide published by Gymdesk, not by Spark; menus can change, so check inside your own account.
Questions people ask
Can I export my members from Spark Membership?
A published switching guide describes exporting the member list as a CSV from Members, All Members, Export as CSV. The same guide says memberships and products have no export option. Spark itself does not publish an export guide that we could find.
When should I export, before or after canceling?
Before. Spark's help center says you typically keep access until the end of your current billing cycle, and we could not find a published timeline for data access after that.
Does BlackBeltCRM charge to import my members?
No. You import your members yourself with our free import tool, see every family and member before anything is written, and can undo it. If you would rather we did the import for you, we can, for a fee.
