Wrestling, where the year is a season and then it stops
Most membership software assumes twelve months of billing. A wrestling programme runs hard for a few months, empties out, and fills again — and treating that as churn misreads the whole business.
Weight class, not belt
There is no grading syllabus to track. What changes weekly is the weight class, and it is the thing coaches actually look up. Rank can be switched off entirely rather than sitting empty on every record, while what does matter — who is competing at what weight, and when that last changed — is held where it can be read.
Season memberships, and the members who come back
A member who stops in March and returns in November has not churned; they have finished a season. Suspending rather than cancelling keeps their record, history and weight progression intact, and stops the spring drop-off reading as a retention crisis in every report you run. Season-length and month-to-month memberships run side by side.
Two seasons and a summer programme, on one roster
Many clubs run a competitive season, an off-season technique programme and a summer camp, with overlapping but different rosters. Held as separate programmes with their own enrolments, each has its own attendance and its own economics — so whether the off-season programme pays for itself has an answer.
Questions we get asked
- Can we bill for a season rather than monthly?
- Yes. Season-length memberships and month-to-month run on the same system, and a member can move between them without a new record.
- What happens to a member between seasons?
- Suspend rather than cancel. Billing stops, the record and history stay, and an inactive member does not count toward your tier.
